Two films I thought we duds...

What a downer this film was. What was Eastwoods point? Let's take the few stories our culture has of bravery, sacrifice and tragic heroism and make it all look like an act of commercialism, racism, pointless loss and cowardice. I left deflated...thanks Clint...way to denigrate the flag of our fathers.

Any film that has you thinking about just getting up and going home is probably not too good. Formulaic is all I can say. I was hoping this was going to be a good ww1 flick. But instead you got the war movie formula....good guys & bad guys, the tough captain, the moody and dark character, the dame in distress, the goofy attempt to portray community and the melding of boys into men...on and on...it was so painfully contrived to me. I didnt believe any of it.

I would take the credits of Band of Brothers over the hours of this film.

Believe it or not, I just watched "Saving Private Ryan" a few weeks ago for the very first time (mainly because my wife wouldn't be able to handle the gore factor). How would you say either of these compared to that one?

see Letters from Iwo Jima, they actually work great together as a couplet and the former is better because of it...

But 'Letters' stands on its own as a very good film IMHO

S.P.R. blows these two films out of the water. I will probably see "Letters" but if it's a pro Japan, feel sympathy for the other guys (insert slightly anti-american) film...I am going to get ticked. If that was the whole point of these two movies. I have a feeling it is..Let's look at the war from another angle thing. Americans bad...enemies good point of view is real strong right now in our left leaning culture, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is more of a flag burning film than a flag waving. But....before you hang me for my right leaning tendencies...I will see it to be fair.

I haven't seen either of them, but Letters was filmed nearly simultaneously by Eastwood. Supposedly varying points of view of the war, Letters being from the Japanese side of things.

SPR just about killed me to watch.

True to form the left leaning film makers in Hollyweird have struck again. To try to "soften" the good vs. bad scenario of WW2 is assinine, at best. My father joined the Navy in 1939 and retired from it in 1967. He saw action in 3 wars. Never was the line between right and wrong more clearly defined than in WW2. I have listened to countless stories over the years of what went on in the Pacific theater. The atrocities committed by the Japanese Military make anything that has happened in Iraq seem like a 5 year olds B-day part at McDonald. One of his best friends later in life was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Google it for more info. I heard some stories over the years that would make your skin crawl. He lived it. Revisionist history through film making is deplorable! It does a diservice to all the men & women who gave up their youth to keep this country free.
By the way, I saw an excellent WW2 film the other day... "Soldiers & Saints". I guess it was put out by the Mormons but you couldn't tell. I highly recommend it.

Todd,
That scripture made me laugh. Who would of thunk that would be in the bible :) Too funny.
