RUDY....
So I am sitting in the ER at our local Sacred Heart Hospital waiting for some tests results concerning my wife who is laying in the bed and I hear something mechanical sounding coming down the hall. I turn and look out the door and there roaming the halls is Rudy. I was almost overwhelmed with a rush of 1977 giddiness. I snapped this picture to forever memorialize the moment when I first saw a real life robot at work in my day to day life. My inner sci-fi Twig was gushing with an overwhlming sense of history being made. Sure it wasn't:
...but it was a Robot nonetheless...I have offically lived to an era that I lived only within my early child fantasies. Now if I could only get ahold of a M41a Pulse Rifle....

Outlander....
James Caviezel,Ron Perlman, Sophia Myles, Jack Huston
Outlander: Science fiction meets Aliens, Predator and the great Vikings of the North. Swords, Spaceships, dragons, carnage, good story, pretty good acting. It's not a kids film with an R rating for fantasy horror (ie. tense, scary stalking monster in the dark stuff), Braveheartish 'thunk and chunk' splattering sword play, Dragon with all the 'crunch and munch' eating habits and a couple curse words....but no boobies, if thats your line.
The actors were great, some old faves of mine (Ron Pealman in viking face paint and hammer wielding glory!) and now some new faves, particularly the beautiful red headed, Sophia Pierre and the dashing Jack Huston, who should play the lead role of Thor in the new upcoming rendition of that Marvel character. The monster was great and in a few spots particularly horrific, it's been awhile since I've relished a good beastie in film. I really enjoyed the movie, minus a few weak spots: the uncreative almost rub on looking celtic tattoos, come on! paint up those barbarians. A few too many wide eyed shots of Sophia looking surprised; a pretty face even looks goofy shot that way; and the Catholic priest's character was weak, I was hoping that with Jim in the film we might have a good Christian character, he had kahunas, but thats it.
Other than that...I loved it. I also thought the Viking hall with the tree inside was a great set. For some reason it made me think of this movie...I will have to go rent that and show it to my kids.

Captain's Chair For a Cult Leader....
I was once accused of being a cult leader and supposedly I made people call me "Skipper"...I know, don't laugh too hard...I dont have people call me Skipper and the only cult I lead is one based around the iphone. But I could see building a dais in the meeting area of our church and place this beauty right on top...I could even handle being called "Captain"...it's more inline with my science fiction geekiness and less Gilligan's Island. I could buy it here for only $2,199.99 it could be a dream turned reality...any start up investors for up and coming SCFI/religious cult leaders out there?

Fringe
Fringe is a new FOX show that's co-created by one of the men behind LOST. It's a mix of X-files(without the aliens)CSI and some low grade horror movies with a SCIFI flavor. It's a PG-13ish show, but closer to R in my opinion, some of the scenes are gruesome and have a slight serial killer/horror feel to them. I am not a fan of CSI, or X-Files or Horror....so why did this show grab me? It's the SCIFI angle that I am a sucker for. It's the Pseudo-science or "Fringe" science twist in this show that massages my ober nerdishness love for test tubes, cyber punk, Frankenstein type spookiness.
I'm never a fan of serial killer anything, and even though this has an edge of that in it, I'm hooked because they have stuff like: immersion tanks, retina imaging retrieval, brain to brain subconscious communication and dream travel, transparent skin virus, rapid growth and anti-aging bio-molecular subplots...and..and...well, you get my point...I'm a nerd. If you are not a fan of any of the shows I've mentioned and the type of story lines they contain...stay away, and remember its not a kids show or...one you should watch while eating.

Robota...
Robota I saw this book at Hastings, and decided I am going to take a shot and read it. The art in the book sold me, great look and interesting plot. It's creator worked on the recent Star Warts films, I think Episode 1 & 2. The link is to a short animated video that gives you and intro to the story...impressive.

BSG Season 4...
I finally was able to watch my recorded season opener of BSG....my twig fix was oh so delightfully satiated. The whole Baltar messiah thingy is weird, I wonder where they are going with this plot line. He prayed to the 'One true God" for a boy in the episode and he was healed. Of course the mixing of sexuality and spirituality is problematic...spirituality is now hot and sexy I guess. One of my problems with the show is the blatant sexism of only having pretty chicks being all over the Galatica not to mention the Cylon vixens. The obnoxious playing to the demographic is so juvenile. But other than that the show is a mature look at contemporary issues with great acting and amazing special effects. It's not a show for the kiddies or anyone who is not comfortable with PG-13 or almost R type movies the subject matter is adult in both intensity and life situations.

Appleseed
I watched "Appleseed Ex Machina" last week not realizing that there was a first one called "Appleseed". I watched it this last weekend while all my family was in Oregon, making my movie catch up marathon a total of 5.5 movies. I tried to watch Casshern but it just didn't catch me and I found myself not wanting to loose precious movie time on a flick I didn't like too much, so I ejected it. Appleseed was great, this one and its sequel are in my top more mature animation films. Titan A.E is another of my faves. I also enjoyed "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within"and Steamboy.

TWIG HEAVEN !!!
We watched "Appleseed Ex Machina" last night and it kicked some serious Scfi butt! It's in english, has fantastic animation, action that gave me goosebumps and left me wanting more. It is PG-13 for some language, animated violence (fairly mild in my opinion) and a few intense (slightly scary) images.

Haruo Suiekichi, the mad Japanese inventor of the inter-dimensional timepieces worn by that great Victorian adventurer/time traveller, Professor Albrecht Kronos Beerbohm, who perished saving our timeline from the Zulu Empire of the 34th Century.
