Smith Rocks Or

Smith Rocks Or

Ok...I admit it, I am a rock hugger with a fairly green underbelly. I was raised that way. I attended Seventh Day Adventist schools as a kid, had a vegetarian mother and a nature lover for a father. We spent most of our outings as kids in nature, we camped a lot and lived in a number of outdoor type places. In fact some of my most vivid childhood forming memories are of my mother showing us kids Green peace movies about clubbing seal for fur...that will shape a mind and heart towards environmentalism!

One of my most painful memories centered around earthiness (other than that vile pasty stuff called Tahinni) is when my dog got hit by a UPS truck and died and we got the news over the phone from the vet. I was balling and all that but what made it worse was my mom was playing this Whale song cd that had all these wailing whales crying in the background....talk about a creepy moment.

Are you joking? I can't see it.

If God hadn't wanted us to eat cows (for example), he wouldn't have made them taste like steak!

Deuteronomy 12:15
Nevertheless, you may slaughter your animals in any of your towns and eat as much of the meat as you want, as if it were gazelle or deer, according to the blessing the LORD your God gives you. Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat it.

Deuteronomy 12:20
When the LORD your God has enlarged your territory as he promised you, and you crave meat and say, "I would like some meat," then you may eat as much of it as you want.

I'm not a SDA now. I'm a meat lover to the bone. When my parents divorced I went with my meat loving father...I have always been anti-vegite (to steal a Seinfeld quote) I have to drink my greens now (super-food by Odawala). I just never could seem to find a good relationship between me and greens. Even fruit and I seem to have a tense relationship...I know I should like them but most of the time they just annoy me. I am sure my poor mother is ashamed of my paths of red blooded indulgence. Not that I don't aim to live in a healthy way, exercise and generally avoid the junk food. But my underbelly is more green in relationship to the environment than what pours down my gullet

I'm assuming those weren't 'how-to' movies?

I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself.

I still vividly remember how depressing that song was. I think the album was called "Oregon" not sure if it was the band or name of the album, but Mom had it for a while after. I'm not a vegi now either, but when you see that picture of the whaling ship with the banner above it saying "Greenpeace lies" and there is this huge, magnificent whale being drug up the boat underneath it, and blood pouring out, it's kind of hard to imagine what the lie is. For me if you aren't willing to kill it yourself, you shouldn't eati it. Not to say you have to kill everything you eat, but you should at least be willing to if you had to. For me whale is out of the question. I prefer perch. ~Matt
