Oh my God! are you stupid, they're gonna steal everything you have!
and I will balme you little brother!
Matt...it wouldn't be the first time someone took something from us. Ah Yes, we've had numerous folks stay with us over the years, and not every situation has been positive.
I must admit that this one is all together different. I find myself seriously freaked out at times. Not scared of them, but scared of the responsibility of them being "okay" and having all their needs met. I just can't seem to wrap my head around being in their shoes and having to switch gears, and know nothing and no one. How would I feel? Yikes! I'm sure that's where God's grace will be evident. Pray that my wild-card son Micah (6) will be compassionate and patient with the cultural differences. Prayer, prayer, more prayer... - LeeElla

For all of Micah's characteristics that have you guys worried, I believe that his greatest assets (his honest, real, frank nature - the fact that he doesn't even know what pretense is, much less how to use it, and his compassionate heart) will be disarming things that God will use as he weaves this all together. That said, if he goes 'fists of fury' on one of the Karen kids, we could have an international crisis on our hands! (just kidding Lee! We have to laugh as we believe and pray for the best, right?)

A few tips:
Get a quick rice cooker (costco sells a great one for $30
Meet the family with a excited and loving group at the airport. They have travelled long and are quite anxious about what lies on the other end of the trip.
Make sure you have access to an translator, you will need one at many points.
Remember the change in temp for them, our friends have been really cold, they were used to extremely warm and humid conditions.
Prayer
Be flexible, open, willing to try and be patient.
respect them, they are wise, kind and have much to teach.
A yes doesn't always mean a yes but more than likely a willingness to comply. They are very grateful and almost feel an indebtedness.
Laugh and have fun.
