Vote my conscience...?

“To go against conscience is neither right nor safe. I cannot, and I will not recant. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me.” -Martin Luther

Here is an article by singer Derek Webb that deals with the issue of what to do with your conscience in voting? Some people are choosing this route, some are not...the choice is yours. And here is one of his albums' he is giving away during this political season...enjoy!

i already posted in relation to that article on on few different message boards and on a friends facebook page.....

so..........if you don't like any of the candidates, you should not vote and just go pray???
well, legislation gets passed to take away more of our Christian freedoms every year?
i don't buy that, derek... that's a cop-out...
well, i guess i could see if the only two choices were two totally evil candidates that stood for everything you were against....
say if the choices were only obama or hillary...and you couldn't write in anybody else......
then, i might be voting "none of the above..." but would be looking for a new country to live in too.......
but that's not the case.....
we definitely should not just stick our head in the sand and say "well, God is in charge...."
"you ever notice if you stick your head in the sand standing up, you make a really interesting target for the devil? 8o - mike warnke

here is what i posted on elisha's facebook page... in response to doug tennapel....

ok, fair enough... i came very close to voting third party this time, but the main reason i didn't is that i am not really crazy about ANY of the candidates except ron paul.... and he is out of the running..
there is one guy i definitely DO NOT want to win, and i hate everything he stands for....there is only one candidate who has a chance of defeating him...my vote for mccain is more of a vote against obama... well, i do like sarah palin... :) not just because she's cute but i really like what she stands for..
and that is why i am not voting third party....
but i fully stand behind elisha's right to do so.... aluminum foil hat and all................ :P ;)

What did the early Christian church do? Did they participate in the government? Did they choose to move if no good choices were available? No, they understood that above all of these governments was the one high and almighty God, and it didn't matter if McCain or Obama, or Mao, or Cesar, or W. was in charge.

I think that what most don't understand is that (in my opinion) no candidate who runs for president in this country didn't break some sort of ethical code to get to the place that he or she is in. Look at the campaigns - where they an example of Christian humility and brotherly love?

To say that Derek Webb (or myself for that matter since I agree with his statements) just sticks his head in the sand is a complete misrepresentation and misunderstanding of what he believes. Look at what he is currently involved in as a Christian, and as someone who seeks justice and peace for others.

Eric, I haven't looked at your blog for a week or so and then noticed that I wrote a post identical to this one. Great minds think alike?

Andy:
I appreciate you coming by bro, God speed to your across America caravan for Jesus life and work, we love you guys!

Great minds...fo shure mc-daddy.

I posted this because we Christians have to expand our tent...there are many people who sincerely follow Jesus in the light they have, be it faith, conscience or general good for mankind, that we will rub shoulders with.

He who is not against us is for us...should be more of a rally cry than I hear. People can get so principled that they are too pristine to work with anyone.

Strong leaders can have Peter and Judas on the team...Sons of Thunder and Apostles of Love both emerge from the leadership circles of confident, peaceful yet passionate leaders.

I'm praying that we will mature in our diversity, not into a homogeneous soup but in a celebration of multiplicity and from many...one.

E pluribus unum
