This short poem distills it down to the essentials now doesn't it. Good stuff. That picture is soooooo cozy looking as well.

Well put Fred. I would also say, regarding Mike's picture, that it also captures the contrast of the cold, hard street & sidewalk and the warmth that is offered within the confines of a Jacob's Well.
It's either that Christmas makes me softer or you have written my favorite of your poems here. Dad is right, you have distilled something good there. And I like the picture too. Very inviting. If I was walking on that street I wouldn't be able not to go look in that window.
Thanks folks. I tried to sit down and write out in prose my thoughts and feelings about this advent season but found the abundance of words overshadowed it. I erased my thoughts and turned to poetry.
I asked Mike to take this picture with some direct instructions on what I wanted for the feel of the shot. He captured it perfectly, he's got a great talent. It's awesome being surronded by artists that can help me preach and teach and witness to our values and dreams as a church.
I also think the gift of hospitality is the key to really connecting with those not yet following Jesus. Arts, crafts, cooking, decorating and feasting all help as welcoming temptations.
The Christmas season is an open door to be the best we are as message.
