sounds good to me...

"I took men to Jesus Christ and left them there." George Fox

Dosn't sound that great to me. But it depends on what you mean by leave them there. To me it means leave them with no church support, no good example of what it means to follow Christ, no discipleship. Thats what came to my mind and that isn't good. I'm eternally grateful for the many people who took me 'under their wings' over the years.

I think you have missed Fox's point. If one is familiar with George Fox, you know that this comment wasn't about resignation or anything that was referenced in the comment. It's more about facing the fact that was critical at his time and still is today...men are not being brought to "Christ" or...at least are not being "left there"...that isn't a reference to being born again but being brought to life. Our churches are full of people who are brought to all kinds of things, events, personalities, programs and such but rarely brought to a face to face encounter with Jesus. Mainly I imagine because we ourselves have not but a mere pittance of reflected glory upon our own faces...a painful reminder that we've spent to few moments beholding His face. We can bring people only as far as we've travelled ourselves. So the easier route I think is to perpetuate stuff to fill the absence. Fox fought that battle and launched a movement that revitalized the passion to awaken the inner life of the spirit. He stripped the "meeting" of its multitude of needless soulish fillers and laid his brothers and sisters out to dry in the hot light of simple prayer...quiet prayer...space to once again hear Jesus. Not a preacher...not a song...not a good word or anything else but Jesus. I agree reflected light is beautiful but it is nothing like seeing the Sun rise in the dawn...I think that is what Fox was saying.
