Gathering Storm....

ominous apparitions,
deep earth rumbles,
uneasy footing,
branch that gives way,
pang at the bite,
gathering storm...

winds hot and sticky breath,
seconds after thunder,
footsteps in the hall,
envelope with unknown writing,
call waiting,
gathering storm...

water soaking through panties,
lightening in the belly,
glance of the tiger,
fingered daemon,
arched and sweaty,
eager anticipation, mingled horror,
silence before the intake,
the stuttering cry, the wail.
gathering storm...

Dusk choking dawn,
vine grappling tree,
titans emerging,
wisdom descending,
gone is meandering stream,
come, is rushing torrent,
wolf is devouring the lamb
gathering storm...

clouds on the horizon,
thoughts like frost
leaves descending,
songs leaving,
light surrendering,
gathering storm....

dark garden meetings,
kisses with beatings,
friendships fleeing,
curses for meaning,
roosters are crowing
gathering storm...

eyes lost their gleaming,
stolen touch...more fleeting,
forgotten greetings,
moments without meanings,
eros wounded, slowly bleeding
gathering storm...

oracles like sagging breasts,
blackened mind...past fires burned
lecterns sheets no longer tussled,
widowed is the weaver,
forgotten are the rapturous visitations,
eldering blindly into revelations

gathering storm, awaiting...

Hi Eric,
man, I can usually unravel the skein with a few reads but this one stumps me?
Gotta fill me in on the meaning.
Love Dad

(I often face a lot of drama in my world...its hard for it to not soak into your brain and heart and its a battle to fight off the sense of trouble always looming)

winds hot and sticky breath,
seconds after thunder,
footsteps in the hall,
envelope with unknown writing,
call waiting,
gathering storm...

(the feeling before a thunderstorm, the anticipation of a meeting or a beating, bills or complaints, endless phone calls)

water soaking through panties,
lightening in the belly,
glance of the tiger,
fingered daemon,
arched and sweaty,
eager anticipation, mingled horror,
silence before the intake,
the stuttering cry, the wail.
gathering storm...

(the miracle and nightmare of birth...it all begins so brutal and the process is horrific and beautiful..kind of like life)

Dusk choking dawn,
vine grappling tree,
titans emerging,
wisdom descending,
gone is meandering stream,
come, is rushing torrent,
wolf is devouring the lamb
gathering storm...

(Parenting.)

(Betrayal in friendships, kinda like Jesus went through)

eyes lost their gleaming,
stolen touch...more fleeting,
forgotten greetings,
moments without meanings,
eros wounded, slowly bleeding
gathering storm...

(troubled marriages, fading love, the emptiness of two people who fall out of love, the fear of failure in marriage, all the stuff of marriage both real and imagined that everyone goes through on some level or another)

oracles like sagging breasts,
blackened mind...past fires burned
lecterns sheets no longer tussled,
widowed is the weaver,
forgotten are the rapturous visitations,
eldering blindly into revelations

(the duty of ministry, ministry without life, passion, vision, mystical reality...finishing ministry life like the last book...but not with the drama and fire but...a meandering slowness that belies the last book of the bible.)

gathering storm, awaiting...

The trick is to face all of this and find a way through that you dont swallow a pistol or shoot someone else...shrivel, drivel or fossilize.

Poetry helps me exorcize my own possessions and with God's help prevent this.

Beautiful...I think it's my favorite of yours ever.
So descriptive, and the words fall with such rolling urgency when you read them. It re-enforces the the whole gathering storm theme. The rythmn is so, so good...really. And the picture, the picture is perfect.
Love you.
