Franciscan Benediction...

May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships
So that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,
So that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger and war,
So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and
To turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness
To believe that you can make a difference in the world,
So that you can do what others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor.

Amen

I'm copying this, so that I can pray it, over myself, my family, our neighborhood and our country. This is excellent!!

Yes, I agree...

I am going to find a way to get this on our church window facing in and out...

So, did you put this on your church window, facing in and out? :) This also has an honored place on my fridge, next to the "Celtic Prayer" you shared, and close to "The Prayer of St. Francis" which is the prayer of my life, and of my mother before me. When I shared this benediction with her, she cried the tears of the overcome... Long and hard.

I have a friend who recently saw the movie "Slumdog Millionaire." When I saw her on Friday, April 17th, she said she can't watch movies like that because they hurt her heart so deeply. I told her I thought her response to movies like this is a gift from Heaven, designed to motivate her to become part of the solution to the injustice in the world. Then I emailed this benediction to her, and she was deeply impacted by it. And so the intricate web of God's Kingdom is ever strengthened.
